Telling Our Stories Through Art

The mission of the Northside Cultural Arts District (NCAD) is to create a Cultural Arts district in the Syracuse Northside neighborhood. The goal of the NCAD is to increase and strengthen equitable representation of the immigrant population in the cultural, economic, and social domains through public arts. The main objectives of the NCAD are to promote cultural awareness, activate parks and vacant lots, provide arts education, promote access to entertainment, foster the local economy, and transform the Northside neighborhood into a cultural heritage destination while exercising self-sustainable and environmentally conscious local economy practices.

The focus of the NCAD on public art is due to the fact that public art is freely accessible to the public, it can transform underdeveloped or abandoned areas into aesthetically appealing places, and it can help to build community identity and a sense of place.
